Who & Where Are We?
Colstoun Arts is a contemporary arts initiative based at the historic Colstoun House in East Lothian, Scotland, dedicated to exploring the bond between art and nature.
Our artist residency programme invites artists each year to immerse themselves in the estate’s landscapes, gardens, and woodlands, creating work that responds to place, environment, and imagination. Residents are provided with accommodation, studio space, and opportunities to engage with their own connection to nature uninterrupted by the outside world (please note our residency program is not open to applications, except for Scottish Applicants, who may apply via email and through partner organisations).
Alongside residencies, Colstoun Arts maintains a contemporary art collection, which grows through acquisitions and residencies. Many works from the collection are available for loan to exhibitions, enabling a wider audience to experience the dialogue between creativity and the natural world.
Through exhibitions and public programmes, we present the work of our residents and collection artists, fostering reflection, dialogue, and engagement between artists, audiences, and the environment. Colstoun Arts is committed to nurturing creativity, experimentation, and the enduring connection between art and nature.
Colstoun Arts is located at Colstoun House near Haddington East Lothian. Colstoun is Scotland’s oldest singularly inhabited house, being the home of the Broun family for over 950 years.
